Descriptive Video Works would like to welcome Chana Smith-Balloffet to the team. Chana is DVW’s new International Operations Manager, based in France.

Chana is a global citizen, holding dual citizenship of the US and France. She also speaks English, French, Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish. Chana comes to the new role with extensive experience in localization, having managed dubbing and subtitling of film, TV, and streaming content for major Hollywood studios and service providers.

Chana will be working to expand DVW’s Audio Description services internationally (including film, TV, streaming, cultural events, and more), and help broaden the scope of services, develop resources and services, and increase awareness about accessibility for people who are blind and low vision.

While Chana does not have a vision impairment, accessibility is something that resonates for her as a woman, immigrant, and person with multi-racial and ethnic identities. Her experiences have shaped her core belief that everyone should be seen and heard and “have a seat at the table.” Chana says, “Equality of access to information, education, culture and entertainment is an imperative that I feel very passionate about.”

Inspired by the DVW’s commitment to inclusion, breaking down systemic barriers to accessibility, and ensuring a high-quality user experience, Chana knew that she wanted to be involved in this work. “The company’s core value, ‘Nothing About Us Without Us’ isn’t just lip-service and that was a huge factor in my decision to join the DVW team.”

Please help us welcome Chana to the team!

Chana can be reached at [email protected]
