Descriptive Video Works would like to welcome Nefertiti Matos Olivares to the team, as our new Workflow Manager for Quality and Inclusion, based in New York. Nefertiti comes to the role with an extensive background in Assistive Technology Instruction and Cultural Institution Accessibility.

As a blind, bilingual, Latina-American, Nefertiti is a passionate advocate for inclusion and is deeply committed to ensuring that culture is a shared space for all: “As a blind person who lives with chronic illness, I am intimately acquainted with the difficulties of existing in a world that isn’t built for me. I learned early on that if I wanted to be an independent and successful person, I would have to be an advocate.” Nefertiti is also a professional voice talent, who specializes in Audio Description narration. She co-runs both the LinkedIn Audio Description Group and the Audio Description Twitter Community, where all things #AudioDescription are welcome.

As an active and valuable member of DVW’s Advisory Council, Nefertiti has helped guide DVW’s culture and strategy, consulted on accessibility tools, and assisted in the implementation of new guidelines and processes.

In the newly created Workflow Manager for Quality and Inclusion role, Nefertiti will be responsible for casting voice talent, equitable recruiting, Quality Control management, and creating workflow assessments for blind and low vision talent in narration, QC, and writing. Nefertiti will work closely with Studio Head Rhys Lloyd to develop new resources and services, make advancements in Audio Description, and highlight and address accessibility issues and systemic barriers for people who are blind or low vision. Rhys was thrilled to have Nefertiti join the team: “She is one of the brightest talents in Audio Description because she is passionate, strategic, and insightful - all in equal measure.”

Nefertiti was excited to join the DVW team because of their commitment to excellence for the blind and low vision community, and respect for the craft of Audio Description: “Meaningful accessibility allows someone like me to lead a productive and enjoyable life. It does away with the artificial barriers that all-too-often impede progress and keep us from realizing a vital truth - no matter our differences, we are all human in need of connection.”

Please help us welcome Nefertiti!
